Epic Records- American record label

Epic Records is an American record label, owned by Sony Music Entertainment which currently operates under the umbrella of the Columbia/Epic Label Group. It is a premiere label for Sony Music, although Epic was originally conceived as a jazz imprint, it has since expanded to represent various genres.

Epic Records was launched in 1953 by CBS (Sony) for the purpose of marketing jazz and classical music that did not fit the theme of the more mainstream Columbia Records. 'Its bright-yellow, black and blue logo became a familiar trademark for many jazz and classical releases. This has included such notables as the Berlin Philharmonic, Charles Rosen, the Juilliard String Quartet, Antal Doráti conducting the Hague Philharmonic and George Szell conducting the Cleveland Orchestra.' as said by Wikipedia.
By the time of 1960's, the label's musical base had been expanded and made to include all genres, which they thought would help the label become more reconised and it was also done to prevent the roster of Columbia Records (which, at the time, had a reputation for releasing material by more established acts) from being overstuffed with newer artists. And now Epic has became more well known for its signing of newer, fledgling acts. By the end of the 1960s, Epic earned its first gold records and had evolved into a formidable hit-making force in rock and roll, R&B and country music. Then by 1970s Epic's commercial success continued to grow in and had releases from artists that had become quite famous, for example, ABBA.

Today, Epic Records is owned by Sony Music Entertainment. Sony bought CBS Records in 1987 and then in 1991 the company was renamed Sony Music. In February 2009, Sony Music made singer/songwriter Amanda Ghost president of Epic Records. Later in the year, Sony Music (during a reconsolidation of labels) merged Epic's operations with Columbia Records, and subsequently formed the Columbia/Epic Label Group — under which both labels continue to operate as separate brands. Sony Music's Legacy Recordings, in the meantime, reissues the label's classic and historical titles.

Case Study of a well-established recording artist/band

JLS (an initialism of Jack the Lad Swing) are a British boyband who fits into the genre's of R&B, POP and DANCE-POP, who were runners-up in the fifth series of ITV reality talent show The X Factor in 2008, coming second to Alexandra Burke. The group consists of Aston Merrygold, Marvin Humes, Jonathan "JB" Gill, and Oritsé Williams.

Following their appearances on The X Factor, JLS signed to Epic Records, and enjoyed continued chart success throughout 2009. Their first two singles "Beat Again" and "Everybody in Love" both went to number-one on the UK Singles Chart. The band's eponymous debut album was released on 9 November 2009, and has since sold over one million copies in the UK. JLS won the awards for British Breakthrough and British Single ("Beat Again") at the 2010 BRIT Awards.

In 2010, JLS signed an American record deal with Jive Records, and released "Everybody in Love" as their debut US single. "The Club Is Alive", the lead single from their second studio album, was released in the UK in July 2010, and earned the band their third number-one on the UK Singles Chart.

This was one of the very first music videos i discovered through the internet that was well known.

Hero- Mariah Carey / X Factor Finalists

Some songs have different music video's on below the line marketing; social networking such as 'YouTube', where people either create their own video or makes a video with no still or moving images but with the lyrics at home so viewers can sing along if they choose to, or other artists can get permission to interpreted the song and make it their own, but having to have the same lyrics. For example the song Hero was originally performed by Mariah Carey, however the song is well known by the X-Factor Finalists, that sung this song and interpreted it so it is aimed towards The British Army and explaining, even tho lives have been lost they are still 'Hero's' to us and in our hearts.

Madonna: Vogue

This video was shot and directed by a professional photographer who takes photos for modeling magazines, the style it was shot in was like a noir film so it was black and white and had lots of models in it so it looked like a photo shoot, i did not really like it as it is not my style of music however the video was good it is very unique as it has a photo shoot feel to it which you do not really see often in music videos. The reason i did not like it is one because it is not my type of music and two i found the video a bit boring i guess this reflects my interest in fashion.

Eminem: Stan
Stan was a very high budget music video we could tell this as it had the lead actor from final destination and had a bit of CGI in it which was at the end when Stan is at the window of Eminems coach. I liked this video one because i like the type of music and also because the music video was so well shot and told a story that was easy to follow almost like a short film but a bit more high budget. I also liked this video as it made you feel bad for the protagonist of the story.

Tenacious D : Tribute
This video is a lot like the band you do not take them to seriously as even know they make out they are these metal gods and amazing enough to make the greatist song in the world it is all for comical value. I liked this video a lot as there were a lot of easter eggs such as Dave Grol as the devil, i also liked the song and again how the video told a story and we followed it but the reason i liked this story is because it was again not to be taken serious it was for comical value. I also liked how they made the video very funny.
