Andrew Goodwin
From the writing in “Dancing in the Distraction Factory” (Routledge 1992) Goodwin came up with 6 different codes/conventions of which should be followed in a music video.
1) That music videos should demonstrate genre characteristics
2) That there is a relationship between the lyrics and the visuals
3) That there is a relationship between the music and the visuals
(Which amplifies, illustrates or contradicts)
4) The demand for the records label will include the need for lots of close ups of the artist/s and the artist/s may develop motifs which recur across their work(A visual style)
5) That there is frequently reference to the notion of looking (screens within screens, telescope, etc) and particularly voyeuristic treatment of the female body
6) That there is often intertextual references (to films, TV programs or other music videos)

Shot idea's
idea's of shots i could use
As my actor/character should have longish hair to help show his American style and his soft rock music, the wind blowing his hair may help and look quite good.
Using a long shot behind the actor could be used at the begining or the song to make the audience wonder who it is and what they look like.
Also the long shot will shoe them on their own that will represent loneliness.
this shot i thought could be used in my music video to show the actors faciel expression which isnt happy but worried in a way and lonely.
this is another shot that will show the faciel expression of the actor and would help get across to the audience how he feels.
this fadeout/fadein catched my eye quite a lot as i thought its a lovely look and would fit into my music video weather the same here; actors face and the waves of the water or when the music video is changeing from the crouded scenes to/from beach scenes.
this shot just shows that the actor is looking out into the sea, perhaps lost, but indicates that they dont neccersery need to sing along with the lyrics at the same time.
the waves here i thought were suprupe and would look good in my music video however its te trouble if i film on a day where the waves are heavy.

this mid-shot shows the characters costume to help get across their personality/look.
A similar beach idea
Broken hearted girl- Beyonce
Whilst researching through music video's, i came across this one by Beyonce that is similar to the scene's i want in my music video as the beach scene in black and white to help get across the lonliness in the music/video.

Feedback from pitch
The elements that work are:
- the idea of colour jataration but i would make the artist black and white
- good locations for music video
- clever idea of the black and white
- the whole idea and concept is solid and structured
- the beach scene idea
The elements that need developing are:
- consider how the video will appeal to your target audience
- instead of a blazer for the artist-a leather jacket
- how doing the crowded area... take will have to be the same
- effect on the music video
Things that dont work are:
(none)
